New Irish Data Protection Commissioners take up their roles
wo new Data Protection Commissioners have taken up their roles. The Government announced the appointment of Dr Des Hogan and Dale Sunderland to the positions last week. They have each been appointed for a five-year term with Dr Hogan assuming the role of Chairperson. The tenure of the outgoing Data Protection Commissioner, Helen Dixon, ended yesterday after almost a decade in the post.

The European Union is formally investigating TikTok’s compliance with the bloc’s Digital Services Act, the Commission has announced. Areas the Commission is focusing on in this investigation of TikTok are linked to the protection of minors, advertising transparency, data access for researchers, and the risk management of addictive design and harmful content.
